HOW TO UPGRADE TO QUICKEN 2015 HOME AND BUSINESS WINDOWS 8.1
I had one Windows 8.1 computer (that I Own) that had Quicken on it. This experience is backed up on similar situations with at least 6 of 10 computers within my computer group help sessions. Non-Microsoft applications and apparently Microsoft was informed of this during the beta testing. I have a lot of experience around the Windows operating system and networking. Recently, I have been helping many of the retired people of our computer group through the Windows 10 upgrade and I can say categorically, that Windows 10 is a BIG problem for many Having worked professionally with computers since around 1973, and all the way back to the DOS days of the first IBM computer,

I've done this for over ten years moving my data file between a home and work PC with never one error or problem.I am part of a computer group here in my retirement community. Message me back if you have any further questions about this process. This works for me.it eliminates worrying about having two people access the same data file at the same time.and it protects my current data file. It has been shown that doing this can eventually lead to a message that the number of datasets has been exceeded and you will be locked out of your Quicken data file.

Notice.as I said.I do NOT use Quicken's backup and restore feature. I copy from the cloud folder and paste to my desktop folder where my active Quicken data file resides. Then, on the other PC I do the same, only in reverse. Believe me, you'll need them with Quicken. So, basically, I have Quicken data files galore from different time frames. This is IN ADDITION to my regular Quicken data file backups that Quicken creates periodically AND that I manually create once a month. This gives me seven current backup files.just in case something gets mucked up I have six other Quicken data files to possible go back to.

I actually have seven folders on my cloud drive (Dropbox), one for each day of the week and paste the data file to the proper day of the week folder. qdf file and then PASTE it on the cloud drive. I go to Windows Explorer, use the COPY function for your Quicken. You CAN put backup files on those devices however.įirst off, I do NOT use Quicken's backup and restore feature for this. If you do put your active Quicken data file on a cloud or external drive, regardless of how careful you are, irreversible data corruption will eventually occur. Quicken was made to have your active data file on a local drive on your PC or Mac, commonly referred to as your C: drive. Quicken's data file was NOT meant to be used on a common cloud drive or an external drive. If you can do it every 2 or 3 days, that will save you a lot of problems in case things go south.

My best advise for you is to stick with using Quicken only on one computer, if you need to move the data back and forth, stick it to a USB drive and transfer it to the other computer, get the work done and so on.Īnd the advise I always give to everybody: DO MANUAL BACKUPS. Personally, I used the Quicken Cloud to do this, but I eventually figured out that it only works if you do not have any account connected to any financial institution.Īs well, if you continue using your file on a cloud, it will eventually get corrupted (Quicken files are not very stable) and nobody (not even Quicken) will be able to recover your data. We eventually stopped indicating customers that this was a fix because of the problems it carries.

Last year, I was still a supervisor at Quicken support and you wouldn't believe the amount of requests we receive for this feature. I wouldn't recommend you doing this, trust me.
